What is the principle of action of polycarboxylate high-performance water reducer?

2025-9-23
The working principle of polycarboxylate high-performance water reducer is based on its * * "comb shaped" molecular structure * * (the main chain carries polar groups such as carboxyl and sulfonic acid groups, and the side chain is a long polyoxyethylene chain), which is achieved through three major synergistic mechanisms:

Adsorption dispersion: the main chain polar groups adsorb onto the surface of positively charged cement particles, forming a negatively charged double layer, which disperses the cement floc aggregation by electrostatic repulsion, releases the free water enclosed inside, and achieves high water reduction;

Stability of spatial hindrance: The side chains extend into a "barrier" in water, physically blocking the re aggregation of dispersed cement particles and maintaining the slump of concrete for a long time;

;

Lubrication effect: The dispersed cement particles work together with the released free water to reduce friction between particles and further improve the fluidity of concrete.
